Digital Signage in a Secondary School: Announcing Bus Arrivals Live

Informing pupils isn’t limited to a traditional noticeboard. At a secondary school, GET Conseil set up a digital signage system that goes well beyond announcing birthdays and events: a genuine custom-built application to announce bus arrivals live.

The need: informing pupils, beyond standard announcements

The school wanted a digital signage system to inform pupils: pupil birthdays, upcoming events at the school. A standard use case, but one that quickly revealed a more concrete, more useful day-to-day need.

The most useful feature: live bus arrivals

GET Conseil developed a small application that lets supervisors announce a bus’s arrival on the display screen in just a few clicks. Pupils who want to know whether their bus has arrived just need to look at the screen. When the bus leaves, the supervisor simply marks it as departed — pupils then know immediately whether their bus has gone or not.

The benefit is twofold: real convenience for pupils at arrival and departure times, and for supervisors, a way to broadcast information to the whole school quickly and clearly, without having to move around or shout down a corridor.

A sturdy outdoor screen, for a third of the usual cost

The system relies on a weatherproof outdoor screen, installed for roughly a third of what this type of investment usually costs. The solution was designed to stay affordable, without sacrificing the robustness needed for an outdoor installation.

A solution that evolves with new needs

GET Conseil stays close to its clients to evolve the solution and the application as new needs arise — this isn’t a fixed system delivered once and for all, but a tool the school can keep adapting.

Frequently asked questions

Does the screen really withstand bad weather?

Yes, the screen installed in this case is designed for outdoor use, and was chosen for roughly a third of the cost of a standard investment in this type of equipment.

Is the bus-signalling application complex to use?

No, it’s deliberately simple: the supervisor marks a bus as arrived or departed in a few clicks, and the information appears on the screen immediately.

Can the application evolve to meet new needs?

Yes, GET Conseil stays close to its clients to adapt the solution and the application over time, as new needs come up.

Is digital signage only used to signal buses?

No, it also displays pupil birthdays and upcoming school events — bus signalling is the most-used feature day to day, but the screen remains a general-purpose communication tool.
